so now what....

I notice artists in here going to many studios in our Choice-based art room.

I see so many of you behaving like artist; being brave and trying out new materials and techniques.  This takes courage!  👏👏👏

Now that you have explored a material let's look at what you can do with those EXPLORATIONS!

How to Expand & Stretch your art!

Look at these two paintings.  Do they look complete to you?  Are they interesting?

Sometimes  a lot of white space can look unfinished.  we add to our art to make it look more interesting, complete or exciting!

*Cut out the image that you painted and glue it to a piece of colored or textured paper.

*Take small papers that you get from collage and draw images to be cut out and glued as details to your composition.

Let's look at that rainbow again....

Before and after it was taken to the Collage studio

Maybe you experimented with Splatter Paint in our painting studio.

(Remember Splatter Paint is permission only)

How can you bring more creativity to your work?

Collage it!

Cut your Splatter Painting into shapes

We have liquid watercolors in mist bottles.  They create bold colorful areas of paint.  But spraying paint on paper might not highlight your creative talents.  It's fun to experiment and explore this process but how can you stretch this method....

Try a TAPE or Oil Pastel RESIST.*Let paint dry before removing tape.

Lay leaves or flowers on your paper and spray a fine mist.  Let your paint dry before removing the leaves.

Take that colorful misted paper over to drawing.  Create a Silhouette.  Draw an outline in pencil and then fill in your drawing with Sharpie.  A landscape is a great possibility for a silhouette.

Take your colorful sprayed paper to the collage studio and cut it into shapes and glue them into a picture you have envisioned.

Add Paint with Kwik Stix and glue down construction paper shapes.

Printmaking....

you made a dot paper now what ...

Maybe you dotted a picture on your paper...
\
...Or you made a paper full of color and random dots. where can you take your creativity next?  Perhaps the drawing studio.

I see many paintings like this. Beautiful paper full of color.  What could you do with these stripes of paint?

Paint an outline of your favorite animal.

Tear, yes, you heard me right, tear your painted paper into interesting shapes and glue similar areas colors together.

Cut up your painting!!!  Yep, into paper strips and then weave it into a colorful fiber arts artwork.

Squeegee Painting

If you are committed to exploring and taking your art to the next level then squeegee art might just be for you.  This is a permission only technique, plan sheet filled out and one that you are dedicated to following up the next class with turning your exploration to a work of art.

One of the most well known Squeegee masters is Gerard Richter.

We have a few of his painted artworks in our St. Louis Art Museum.

Gerhard is a German visual artist who has created abstract as well as photorealistic paintings, and also photographs and glass pieces. He is widely thought of as one of the most important contemporary German artists

Gently squeeze small dots of paint. (if you use too excessive amounts of paint are wasteful and you will be done!)  Dots on one side of your paper.  Hold one side of the paper with your hand.  Start on the side with the paint and Press down and Pull the squeegee away from your hand and across the paper

NOW, WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THIS PAINTED PAPER THAT YOU EXPLORED SQUEEGEE PAINTING?

Will you Stretch and Explore your art work?
Will you work on your art more than one class?
Can you think of a creative way to use a painted piece of paper?
